Key features of our custom flap boxes
Flap boxes come in different structures to suit shipping, retail, and gifting needs, so it is worth choosing the right format for your products.
Regular slotted cartons are the standard shipping format, with all four flaps meeting at the centre. Full overlap flaps double the board across the top and bottom, which is what you want for heavy contents or rough courier routes. Roll end tuck top mailers fold shut and tuck without tape at all, and they are the format most ecommerce brands use. Front flap and flip top boxes give a hinged lid with a tuck closure, optionally magnetic. Auto bottom boxes snap into shape in one movement, which cuts pack out time noticeably once you are doing hundreds a day.
Board runs E flute at 1.5mm for retail cartons and light shipping, B flute at 3mm and C flute at 4mm for parcels, and BC double wall for heavy loads. Single wall at 32 ECT covers most parcel routes. Paperboard versions use SBS at 14pt to 24pt, and rigid builds use greyboard from 1.5mm to 2.5mm.
Inserts are cut to your product with about 1mm tolerance. Die cut corrugated fitments are the economical choice. Molded pulp suits glass and cosmetics and stays plastic free. EVA and PE foam go in where the contents are genuinely delicate. Folded paperboard platforms work for flat or light items.
Printing is full CMYK with Pantone matching, plus white ink on kraft. Finishes include matte and gloss lamination, soft touch, foil stamping, embossing and spot UV. Interior print costs very little and changes the moment the flap opens.
Eco-friendly packaging for our flap boxes
Our board is FSC certified, and recycled kraft, PCR content and soy based inks are available across every flap box format. Plain corrugated and uncoated paperboard are recyclable and repulpable in most US programs.
Two things worth stating plainly. Heavy lamination, foil and film windows usually take a box out of the curbside stream. A laminated gift box will not carry the same claim as a plain kraft mailer. And biodegradable is a claim with a specific legal meaning under the FTC Green Guides. Which a coated carton will not support. We will tell you which claims your actual specification backs rather than printing a general one.
Flap boxes also get reused, particularly the rigid and flip top versions. Customers keep them for storage, and that reuse is a stronger environmental argument than most recycling claims.
Ideal applications of our custom flap boxes
For ecommerce, roll end tuck top mailers are ideal custom cardboard boxes that survive courier handling and need no tape, which speeds up your pack out.
Retail, printed paperboard flap cartons with a window panel or a hang tab sit on a shelf or a peg wall.
Gifting, rigid flip top boxes with a magnetic closure, ribbon pull and printed tray liner do the presentation work.
For documents, we size boxes to A4 at 210 by 297mm or US letter at 8.5 by 11 inches, with lift off lids and reinforced corners for archive storage.
